Note to Snow Boarders
The first two editions of this tuning guide were addressed exclusively to skiers because skiing is what I do and understand. Then I was reliably informed that the same principles of edge preparation and maintenance, base maintenance and waxing applied equally to snowboards. So this edition is adressed to snowboarders also. For simplicity and sometimes to avoid clumsy wording, the text may refer only to skis and for that shortcoming I beg the pardon of snowboarders.

Note to Racers
While this tuning guide is primarily oriented to recreational skiers/boarders, its recommended practices are valid for racers. Race tuning involves the same fundamentals plus some extensions and refinements which would be "over the top" for recreational skiers.
