Jim Mucth - successful Master ski racer and auther of Staying In Tune

The author, Jim Mutch, at the 2005 USSA Masters National Championships at Big Sky, Montana

Over several years recently, Jim has made an in-depth study of modern ski tuning—talking to professional ski tuners, ski racers, ski coaches, ski and ski tool manufacturers. This guide is a result of that study. It is directed primarily to recreational skiers and boarders though its fundamentals are valid for racers.

Until 2004, Jim"s sole snow sport passion was "all mountain" or "off piste" skiing. Then he took up Masters ski racing.

His race results in New Zealand Masters series are:

  • 2004 12 races: four golds, four silvers, one bronze
  • 2005 8 races: six golds
  • 2006 7 races: five golds, one silver

In Regional Masters races in the United States he has won five golds  and three silvers plus a bronze at the Eastern Regional Championships. He was sixth in the Combined Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super-G at the 2005 USSA Masters National Championships. In the 2005 FIS Masters World Championships he was sixth in Slalom.
